California writes its own energy rules for homes and appliances, right down to the pool pump, and many families here watch their power and water use closely.
For a replacement pump motor, yes. Under California's appliance rules (Title 20), a replacement pool pump motor of 0.5 horsepower or more made on or after July 19, 2021 must be variable speed, and pool pumps sold here must be listed in the Energy Commission's directory of certified equipment. The 2025 Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6), in force for permits applied for on or after January 1, 2026, adds the install rules: size or set the filtration pump so it moves water no faster than it takes to turn the pool over once in 6 hours (or 36 gallons a minute, whichever is more), let multi-speed pumps default to their filtration speed, and add a timer so the pumps can run off-peak. Title 24 is California's energy code, and local rules for pool equipment vary by city. Before any pump goes in, ask for its listing in the Energy Commission's directory, and let your installer check the sizing, the timer and the plumbing against the code. Your installer and local building department handle permits; SunRay answers equipment questions. Sunny can tell you which SunRay pumps the catalog describes as variable speed, and a person at SunRay can send you a model's paperwork before you buy.

California's motto is Eureka, a Greek word meaning I have found it. Generation after generation came here looking for something better and stayed to build it, from farms and harbors to the backyards where families gather.
The golden poppy is the state flower and the redwood is the state tree. With about 1,100 miles of coast and 280 state park units, Californians keep their land open to everyone and take care of it.

Los Angeles was founded in September 1781 by forty-four settlers of Native American, African and European heritage. California has welcomed the world ever since, and Spanish, spoken here before statehood in 1850, is still the language of many homes.

Life here moves outside, from the beach to the trail to the backyard. Griffith Park alone covers over 4,210 acres of chaparral hills and parkland in the middle of Los Angeles, and the family pool is where the long, warm days end.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The same answers Sunny gives, in plain words. Your AI agent can read them too.
Yes. SunRay pumps are variable-speed, by-the-sun hybrid AC/DC pump systems: their speed varies with the sun, and the controller can set the RPM if needed.
A solar pool pump is a pool pump that runs on DC power from its own solar panels, so it circulates and filters your water while the sun is up. Every SunRay pump is a hybrid AC/DC pump, made for pool owners who want the sun to do the daily work.
Runs 100% on the sun. You don't need AC at all. Home AC power is optional and capable.
A complete SunRay kit pairs the hybrid AC/DC pump with solar panels sized for that pump. If you already have panels, you can buy the pump only.
SunRay complete kits run from $1,999 for the 1/2 HP to $5,999 for the 3 HP, each with solar panels sized for its pump. Already have panels? The pump alone starts at $999.
It is a pump that runs on DC power from its solar panels and can also run on home AC power. With AC connected, the pump can draw on it automatically when needed.
Match the pump to your pool's gallons: 1/2 HP for above-ground pools of about 1,000 to 5,000 gallons; 1 HP for above-ground pools over 5,000 gallons and in-ground pools from 5,000 to about 20,000 gallons. Move up to 1.5 HP up to about 25,000 gallons, 2 HP up to about 35,000 gallons and 3 HP above 35,000 gallons.
Start with a sunny spot for the panels, your pool plumbing and the instructions for your SunRay kit. A qualified local installer can check the mount, the wiring and any permit your town asks for.
Yes, in-ground pools from 5,000 to about 20,000 gallons take the 1 HP kit. Bigger in-ground pools move up to the 1.5, 2 or 3 HP kit.
Right here: we sell SunRay solar pool pump kits to pool owners across California, and each order ships to your door. Sunny can help you pick the kit and check out in English or Spanish.
Sunlight hits the solar panels, they make DC power, and the pump turns that power straight into water flow through your filter. When you connect home AC power, the hybrid pump can also bring it in automatically when needed, such as for a spa after dark.
The best pump is the one sized for your pool and your sun. SunRay makes hybrid AC/DC pumps from 1/2 HP to 3 HP, so you run on sunlight and still have home power when you want it.
It depends on the pump, so each SunRay kit is complete, with solar panels sized for its pump. Choose the kit by your pool's size, and the panels come matched to it.
From January through July 2026, California homes paid an average of 33.3 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (Electric Power Monthly, Table 5.6.B, released September 24, 2026). Your own bill and rate plan are where your quote starts.
Los Angeles averages about 6.1 peak sun hours a day over the year on panels tilted south at the city's latitude, from about 4.7 in December to about 7.1 in August (NREL solar resource data, read October 22, 2026). Panels need open sun, so the spot in your yard matters as much as the city's average, and Sunny will ask where the sun lands.
Yes, the 1/2 HP kit is made for above-ground pools of about 1,000 to 5,000 gallons, and the 1 HP kit takes larger above-ground pools over 5,000 gallons. Both come complete, with panels matched to the pump.
